the double height reception area leads to the mezzanine meeting room

Located on the edge of downtown, at the end of pier 9, this project has a prominent position along the waterfront, surrounded on three sides by water with a 180 degree view of the Bay.

The Station House is conceived of as a building within the existing circa 1932 industrial shed. The existing concrete walls, corrugated galvanized steel panels, steel trusses, and steel sash windows have been restored. Maintaining and exposing these elements is integral to the design intent.

The program includes dispatch and chart rooms, offices and meeting rooms, as well as mooring and maintenance facilities for 5 pilot boats. And as the pilots are on duty for 7 days at a stretch, kitchen and dining facilities, bunk rooms, an exercise gym, locker and steam rooms, a library, and recreation rooms were provided.
